The city of Phoenix was awarded a $25 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Energy Better Buildings Neighborhood Program and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to launch the Energize Phoenix program in partnership with Arizona State University and with support from Arizona Public Service. The Energize Phoenix program saves energy, creates jobs and will transform a diverse array of neighborhoods along a 10-mile stretch of the Metro light rail.

Energize Phoenix Alters Commercial Loan Program to Increase Participation
May 5, 2012

Energize Phoenix will now offer a new rebate cap of $500,000 for those groups getting a loan. Those without will be stuck at the $200,000 rebate cap. Energize Phoenix is funded with $25 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which sought to create more energy efficiency programs in states.

Update on the Energize Phoenix Program

Last year, the City of Phoenix, in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) and Arizona Public Service (APS), was awarded a $25M federal grant through President Obama’s Better Building Initiative and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to increase the energy efficiency of buildings along the Light Rail Corridor, defined as ½ mile direction on either side of a 10 mile stretch of the Light Rail. That $25M is intended to leverage private dollars with existing utility incentives and rebates to encourage property owners to make energy efficiency upgrades while providing a much needed boost to the local design/construction industries at the same time. Job creation and retention in these sectors is one of the most vital themes to the Better Buildings Initiative and this program.

Multi-family housing owners along a 10-mile stretch of the light rail corridor will be the first in line for $25 million in grants under the Energize Phoenix program, with homeowners and businesses to follow quickly.
